- FUTURE GALLERY
The Vancouver Art Gallery presents exhibitions of work by artists ranging from historic masters to leading-edge contemporaries. These include major thematic exhibitions, presentations of solo artists and smaller, more focused showcases. In a typical year, 2 to 3 exhibitions are borrowed from other institutions and 10 to 12 exhibitions are developed in-house, drawing on our permanent collection and loans of works from around the world. In addition, the Gallery tours a few of its exhibitions each year.

Vancouver-based artist Babak Golkar presents Time To Let Go, an installation of large terracotta pots that negotiate between dichotomies of art and craft as well as modern reasoning and traditional mysticism. The project emerges from the artist's interest in spatial analysis and its relationship to communal areas and public territory. Rather than presenting static objects, Golkar encourages viewers to interact with his sculptures and scream into them, transforming everyday anxieties into play. Distinctly designed to soften sound, these vessels provide a unique location for viewers to voice their unexpressed emotions and release everyday pressures.
Born in the United States, raised in Tehran and having lived between Canada and the Middle East since 1996, Babak Golkar has developed bodies of work, which navigate and negotiate the space between cultural and socio-economical registers. His research-based art practice is centred on seemingly contradictory forms, shapes and material.
Offsite is organized by the Vancouver Art Gallery and curated by Diana Freundl, Assistant Curator. Offsite is funded by the City of Vancouver through the Public Art Program. The Gallery recognizes Ian Gillespie, President, Westbank; Ben Yeung, President, Peterson Investment Group; and the residents of Shangri–La for their support of this space.
